Welcome to another edition of Teaser Tuesday! You know how this works: grab your current read, pick two teaser sentences to share with us (no spoilers, please) and don’t forget to tell us about the book. Then, head over to Should be Reading to check out the other teasers!
This week, my teaser is from Every Step You Take, by Jock Soto. He was a principal dancer for the New York Ballet, with a Navajo mother and a Puerto Rican father, and the book so far is about his childhood, how they moved around and how he got started dancing. Here, he’s talking with his father about how he and his mother got together:
“In fact, I have never really let myself focus on several troubling details before — such as my mother’s extreme innocence when she met my father and the fact that she scrapped her education to run off with a married man, and the existence of my half-brother, Mac Joe, who would have been just a baby when my father walked out on him and his mother. My father’s casual attitude toward the marriage contract is another touchy issue that triggers painful memories that I have been reluctant to address over the years.”
I’d be reluctant, too! No one wants to think of their father as a bad man, but some of the stories he tells about his father are pretty damning. It would be really hard for me.
What’s teasing YOU this week?
