“The worst thing about new books is that they keep us from reading the old ones.”

–¬†John Wooden, American basketball player and coach

That is a great description of my book problem: so many new books come in that they bury the older ones! There are classic books that I would love to go back and read, if only I could find the time.

Yes, such a problem. I love old books like I love old friends. Even old books that I haven’t read yet have an easy familiarity and presence that soothes. New books sizzle and crackle with an energy that pleases, but sometimes tires. Good, old books are an anodyne in a world that sometimes moves faster than my comfort level.
