Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. You know the rules: grab your current read, open to a random page and share a two sentence teaser with us (no spoilers!). Be sure to tell us about the book, so we can add it to our TBR list!
Okay, I am finishing up some books that I started and set aside and the first one is The Taste of Tomorrow: Dispatches from the Future of Food by Josh Schonwald. This one is interesting, although not everything in it sounds terribly tasty. Check out this teaser — I guess it explains why so many things “taste like chicken”:
“The professor of meat sciences said that there’s a meat taste that’s fundamentally similar, crossing all mammalian species. A minced mouse product would taste very similar to minced pork or minced beef; it would have iron, zinc, and vitamin B12, and you could modify taste, adding fats and salts and varying amounts of protein, pretty easily.”
Minced mouse? In this case, they are talking about cultured mouse cells, not actual mice. Basically, mouse meat grown in a petri dish. That doesn’t make it sound any tastier.
What’s teasing you this week?
